No Comments Developing Concentration
Many of us have had the experience of laying down and trying to get to an optimal meditative state where we can access the unconscious powers that lurk within. The problem is that there are those random, fractured thoughts, commonly known as noise, always seem to be there, disrupting our attempts at serenity.
This is a problem that can interfere with self-hypnosis, creative visualization, and other activities that require laser-like concentration. There are some things you can do to help alleviate the “noise” factor. One of more common approaches is to picture yourself in one of you favorite places, be it the beach, or some other place that makes you feel good. It is from there that you can go to higher places in the mind.
Another way that can be considered more pragmatic is to do exercises in concentration. For instance, if you get comfortable in your favorite spot in the home and focus your attention on an object in the room, your focus is on something tangible, and therefore, it is more likely that you will hold your focus longer. This isn’t much different than picturing yourself in a favorite place; it just takes place outside of the mind. Just concentrate on that one thing, and think of nothing else.
Here’s the key: If you find your mind starting to wander, stop, and gently bring back your focus to the object of thought you have chosen. This exercise is not about meditating, but more of a training technique that will facilitate better meditation. Do this a few minutes a day, and you will find that “noise” becoming less and less noisy.
